Fremont Mom, Child Struck by Car

A mother and a small child were hit by a car while crossing a street in Fremont.

A mother and a small child are being treated at hospitals Wednesday afternoon after being hit by a car while crossing a street in Fremont, a fire official said.

Battalion Chief Rich Dickinson said the mother was in a crosswalk at Fremont and Peralta boulevards with two children. She was pushing her 1-year-old in a stroller and a 5-year-old was walking with them when they were hit about 11 a.m., according to the Bay Area News Group.

The mother was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley and the child in the stroller was taken to Children's Hospital in Oakland. Both had head injuries, he said.

According to Dickinson, the 5-year-old was not injured.

Police told the newspaper that a driver had possibly been speeding, and officers were interviewing him to find out more.
