Fund Established to Support Sandra Coke's Daughter

The family an Oakland woman who was found dead in Vacaville last week is raising money for a fund for her teenage daughter.

Sandra Coke, 50, an investigator for the federal public defender's office in Sacramento, was reported missing when she left her home in the 600 block of Aileen Street in Oakland on Aug. 4.

She reportedly had left after receiving information about the family's stolen dog.

After her car and a cellphone were found abandoned in Oakland and Richmond in the following days, a search effort was launched in Vallejo and then in Vacaville, where her body was recovered near Lagoon Park on Aug. 9.

Authorities identified the recovered body as Coke on Tuesday.

Since confirmation of her death, her family has established the Sandra Coke Fund, which will provide education and care for her 15-year-old daughter.

A website for the fund said Coke "enriched the lives of countless people who were fortunate to have crossed personal, professional, and spiritual paths with her.

"An advocate, a leader, and a friend, Sandra helped us all see the world for what it is while working in pursuit of a brighter vision for what it ought to be. Calls and emails flooding in over the past week make it clear: Sandra inspired us all," the post continued.

Supporters are attempting to raise $100,000 for the fund. As of Thursday night, more than $51,000 had been donated.

The San Francisco-based Community Resource Initiative is sponsoring the fundraiser.

Before Coke's body was found police arrested Randy Alana on charges unrelated to his status as a person of interest in her death.

Police said he may have been the last person see Coke before she died.

Alana and Coke had dated many years ago, and he has prior convictions for manslaughter, kidnapping, robbery and rape.

The registered high-risk sex offender is being held at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin without bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on an alleged parole violation in Alameda County Superior Court in Oakland on Friday.

Family friend Kit Young said a memorial service is being planned by friends and family in late September or early October.
