A gas leak at Gardner Elementary School in San Jose has forced officials to evacuate the building and close the school for the day.

School officials are telling parents to pick up their kids at the Bird Avenue and Virginia Street entrance to the school.

The gas leak was reported at about 9:30 a.m. and also forced evacuations of some homes in the area.

PG&E crews are working to shut off the underground gas valve.
