Gilroy City Council Will Appoint New Mayor for 2016

The Gilroy City Council’s first decision of 2016 will be appointing a new mayor.

The council will appoint a current council member to interim mayor at Monday's city council meeting.

Former mayor Don Gage officially vacated his seat Dec. 31 after more than thirty years of public service. Gage announced his retirement early December, naming more time with family as the reason he “hang up the spurs.”

When a mayoral seat is vacated, a council member must be appointed to fill the seat until the current term expires and the next municipal election is scheduled.

Gage’s mayoral term is set to expire November 2016.

The city council meeting begins at 6 p.m.
