Sheriff's officials are trying to figure out why a man kidnapped a young girl from a Sacramento area home in the middle of the night, and then let her go about an hour later seemingly unharmed.
Deputies say the abductor entered the home in Carmichael through an unlocked door around 3 a.m. Sunday, held his hand over the 8-year-old girl's mouth and carried her outside.
He took her to a wooded area before letting her go. Her parents only realized something was wrong when she made her way back home.
Deputies say her skin was scratched from being in the woods, but there were no signs of abuse.
Sheriff's Sgt. Lisa Bowman tells KCRA-TV physical evidence confirms the girl's story. Deputies have not identified a suspect.
