Eleven girls with cancer were able to shed thoughts of meds and hospital beds on Wednesday as they got pampered at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose.
The Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford patients, ages 13 to 19, enjoyed aromatherapy facials, Swedish massages, manicures and pedicures at the Tova Day Spa as part of a “Girl’s Day Out.” The spa employees donated their time and expertise.
The oncology patients also got to ride to the Fairmont in style: They were picked up in a limo and were also treated to lunch and fancy chocolate-covered strawberries, said Lucile Packard’s spokeswoman, Samantha Dorman.
Oncology patient Ashley Fernandez, 15, of Los Banos said the Girl’s Day Out helps her relax and feel “like a girl” again. "I got to relax for a day from the hospital and not worry about anything."
The seventh annual trip was sponsored by the Children Having Exceptional Educational and Recreational Support program, which is part of the 19 for Life Foundation.
