Who made the electric car a luxury item -- and one available to all San Franciscans who participate in a new program? Why, Mayor Ed Lee, of course.
On Monday, the mayor helped introduce BMW's DriveNow program in San Francisco's Civic Center, according to the San Francisco Examiner. Via DriveNow, an electric BMW is available for hourly rental, according to the newspaper.
Driving is only half the battle, so the program also includes a place to park. The company's ParkNow app will show drivers which garages and which spaces are free, thereby cutting down on congestion -- and on pollution, the newspaper reported.
One-third of all downtown traffic is caused by drivers looking for a place to park, according to a BMW official.
