Governor Jerry Brown Offers Condolences to California Student Killed in Paris Attacks

Governor Jerry Brown offered his condolences on Saturday to the family of a California student who was killed in the terrorist attacks in Paris.

Gov. Brown issued a statement regarding the death of California State University, Long Beach student Nohemi Gonzalez.

Gonzalez, 23, was a junior from El Monte studying design and was in Paris attending Strate College of Design during a semester abroad program, according to a press release by the university.

“On behalf of all Californians, Anne and I extend our deepest condolences to the Gonzalez family, Nohemi’s friends and the entire Long Beach State community impacted by this senseless tragedy,” Gov. Brown said.

In honor of the victims of the attacks, the flags at the Capitol building will be flown at half-staff.

In the statement, Gov. Brown said that while there is “no known, specific or credible threat to California or the United States at this time,” he has directed his Office of Emergency Services to activate the California State Threat Assessment System and continue working with local, state and federal law enforcement to ensure all necessary steps are taken to keep California safe.
