The Oakland chapter of the Guardian Angels is hitting the streets of Oakland starting Sunday. The group called a news conference at 2 p.m. at the Fruitvale BART station. That is where they say their latest effort to keep the streets safe will begin.
The group stated, "Now is the time for all Oakland residents to get involve and help Oakland with safety measures. Keep Oakland the beautiful city that it is. Let's keep crime off our streets."
They say it is in direct response to the lay-off of 80 officer in the past week.
The Guardian Angels say they are ready to flood the streets with patrols and "do whatever means possible to help keep our communities, neighborhoods, schools and whole city safe and not letting the bad element take charge of our city. We will not stand for it."
The location of the news conference is the same spot of a deadly officer involved shooting Saturday morning. BART police and Oakland police both fired at a knife-wielding suspect, killing the man.
