Pair of Gun-Toting Suspects Steal UC Berkeley Student's Cellphone and Wallet

A 20-year-old male student at the University of California at Berkeley was robbed at gunpoint early Friday morning, campus police said.

The student was contacted by two suspects on Spieker Plaza, east of the Haas Pavilion, at about 12:30 a.m., according to police.

One of the suspects pulled out a silver handgun and took the victim's cellphone and wallet, police said. The victim wasn't injured in the encounter and the suspects fled on foot, they added.

The student later called campus police but when campus and Berkeley police came up empty after searching the area.

Campus police released only a vague description of the suspects, saying one was a black male about 20 years old who is about 6 feet tall with a slim build and was wearing dark clothing. Tthe other was a black male about 20 years old who is about 5 feet 10 inches tall, clad in a dark green top and dark pants and was armed with a silver handgun.

UC Berkeley police said people who have information about the armed robbery should call them at (510) 642-0472 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or at (510) 642-6760 at all other times.
