Gunman Forces Lockdown of Oakland School

Maxwell Park International Academy in Oakland was evacuated after a gunman was found near the campus.

A man with a shotgun in Oakland forced the lock down of a school Wednesday.

Students from Maxwell Park International Academy were evacuated after the Oakland Police Department responded to reports of a man with a shotgun near campus.

The unnamed man was taken into custody by near the 2800 block Monticello. The shool is located at 4730 Fleming Ave. in Oakland.

Students at Maxwell Park Elementary were evacuated as precaution to Maxwell Park, but there were scheduled to return to class.

All students and residents were reported safe.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m., officers surrounded the man near the school and he was being arrested.
