Hayward police say a woman was shot in the head and neck while she slept at her home, but is expected to survive.
Several bullets were fired at the home shortly after midnight Wednesday.
Sgt. Eric Krimm says the 24-year-old woman was conscious and communicating with others before she was taken to a local hospital, where she underwent surgery for her wounds.
Police are looking into several possible motives for the shooting, but say it doesn't appear to be random.
