Hazmat Crews at Newark Lumber Co.

The Alameda County hazmat team responded to a Newark lumber company after some type of chemical was spilled a chemical sending a 27-year-old man to the hospital.

A fork-lift operator had punctured a container, spewing some of the chemical at the company. The 27-year-old man got dizzy cleaning up the spill, authorities said.

The spill was reported about 9:15 a.m. Friday at Hulbert Lumber Company, 37500 Cedar Boulevard.

The company and businesses in the area were evacuated.

But by early afternoon, employees were allowed to return to work and a company spokeswoman said the 27-year-old man appeared to be fine.
