Homeowner: Light in San Jose Attic Prayer Shrine Likely Cause of Fire

San Jose firefighters quickly put out a small fire early Wednesday morning that started in a prayer shrine located in the homeowner's attic.

Fire Capt. Michael Van Elgort said the one-alarm fire reported just after 3:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Delmas Avenue was put out about 30 minutes later.

The homeowner told NBC Bay Area that he believes a little electric light in his attic prayer shrine sparked the blaze. He heard electric fizzing just before the flames broke out.

Four people were inside at the time and escaped without injury.
