“House of Cards” Surges Netflix Traffic

To avoid "House of Cards" spoiler alerts, avoid people.

Or sit down and watch the show -- everybody else has been doing it.

About 16 percent of American households who subscribed to Netflix in addition to a cable service watched at least one episode of the streaming-only show on Feb. 14, according to Multichannel.com.

By 5 p.m. Feb. 14, 16 percent of all Netflix subscribers had seen at least two episodes -- while 10 percent were identified as "binge-watchers," with all three episodes taken in.

Netflix is headquartered in Los Gatos.

More than 40 million people pay at least $7.99 a month to stream television shows and movies, according to reports.

The company's stock has gained 130 percent in value over the past year.
