A slow animal makes a quick getaway and it was all caught on video.
A tortoise escaped from the backyard of a home on North 4th Street in San Jose Sunday afternoon. The owners were out of the house at the time.
The tortoise is two feet long, about 50 pounds, and according to his owner, appropriately named Napoleon.
"Because he likes to charge at people, and he's really territorial," said Flora Moreno De Thompson.
She's had Napoleon for 10 years, and says he's like a family member. Moreno De Thompson thinks Napoleon was trying to find some grass to eat when he escaped.
"When I had a lawn, he was the lawn mower. Now that I don't have a lawn because of the drought I don't have a lawn anymore," she said.
The video shows a passerby stopping to move Napoleon so he wouldn't get hit by a car. One person stopped to take a picture. Later, a couple picks Napoleon up and put him in their car. The owner hopes they had good intentions.

"I don't know what they're doing with him, and where he is now. I really wish they would have knocked on the door or something," Moreno De Thompson said.
She posted on social media and called animal shelters hoping someone knew something, but no luck. Now, she hopes Napoleon's adventure will loop back around.
"I hope wherever he is, they're giving him kale and some water. I hope he finds his way home," Moreno De Thompson said.
