The Santa Clara County Sheriff's bomb squad collected about 100 pounds of explosive powder during an illegal fireworks raid at a home in Gilroy.
Deputies raided a home late Thursday in the area of Valley Oaks Court and Crest Hill Way and found equipment to make powerful illegal fireworks. The home is located across the street from a neighborhood park.
The raid comes in connection to undercover work of Alameda County detectives, who met a suspect at a parking lot in Hayward earlier in the day to try and purchase fireworks he allegedly made.
After the sale, the man was arrested, officials said, adding the suspect was found in possession of 200 M-1000s.
Deputies said it is a felony to be in possession of an M-1000, which look like a quarter-stick of dynamite and sounds like a pipe bomb when used. The illegal fireworks were found in the car the suspect was driving, which prompted investigators to search his Gilroy home.
Authorities late Thursday were not releasing the suspect's name or the charges he may face.
