San Francisco Gas Stations Give Way to Condo Complexes

What used to be gas stations are now becoming housing in San Francisco, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

There are 23 former gas stations that have been torn down and replaced with housing projects since 2010, the newspaper reported. There are another 13 slated for development, meaning a 40 percent decline in San Francisco gas stations by 2017.

At Tower Car Wash where Mission Street means Van Ness Avenue, for instance, a developer is planning a 200-unit project. Gas station owners said there's just not much money in the business, while demand for housing is at an all-time high.
