Inaugural Bay Area Reggae Festival to Bring Jamaican Stars to Richmond

Reggae and dancehall music are set to take a rare large-scale spotlight in the Bay Area thanks to a new three-day festival coming this summer.

The Bay Area Reggae Festival is scheduled for July 17-19 at Craneway Pavilion in Richmond. Jamaican stars Lady Saw, Beanie Man, Freddie McGregor and Marcia Griffiths are confirmed performers alongside local acts Mystic Man, Junior Toots, Bless King Sounds, I Trinity and Joseph Israel.

In a statement, organizers promised more acts to be named, including performers from throughout the United States, Africa and Haiti.

The event will also feature the Bay Area Reggaefest Dance Off, where 20 amateur dancers will have the chance to compete for a $5,000 prize.
