Inmate Found Hanging From Bed Sheet at Martinez Detention Facility

An inmate died Saturday afternoon at the Martinez Detention Facility, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

At around 4:32 p.m., a Deputy Sheriff discovered a male inmate inside his room hanging from a bed sheet, authorities said. The 38-year-old Walnut Creek resident is not being named, according to the Sheriff's Office. 

A spokesperson for the sheriff's office reported the death at 5:56 p.m. on Twitter. 

The Deputy immediately notified jail medical staff and started conducting a CPR procedure, authorities said. The fire department and an ambulance also responded.

The case is being jointly investigated by the DA's Office and Office of the Sheriff, as of Saturday evening.
