Inmate: Suspect Boasted Police Had no Leads in Sandra Coke Case

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - An inmate says a California man accused of killing a federal investigator wrote a letter to him boasting about the perceived lack of progress in the investigation of her death.

The Oakland Tribune reports  Randy Alana wrote ``So far so good. It's after the first 48.''  The inmate, whose name wasn't released, testified at Alana's preliminary hearing Thursday in Oakland, saying the defendant expressed joy about that police hadn't solved the case after the first 48 hours.

Prosecutors have charged Alana with strangling to death Sandra Coke in August. Her body was found in a Vacaville creek five days after she was reported missing.

Coke was an investigator with the Sacramento branch of the Federal Public Defender's Office.
