Amazon Warehouse in Tracy to Create Hundreds of Jobs

New million square foot distribution center means hundreds of jobs.

A new Amazon distribution center in Tracy means hundreds of jobs for the San Joaquin Valley -- and other parts of the Bay Area.

Amazon, the world's largest online retailer, opened new distribution centers in Patterson as well as the one in Tracy, where supermarket giant Safeway has a major warehouse, too, according to the Modesto Bee.

The new jobs will pay $13.50 an hour to start, the newspaper reported. The "fulfillment associates" will also receive benefits, including health, retirement and stock program.

Tracy's new distribution center is still under construction but will be 1-million square feet when completed, the newspaper reported.

Up to 1,000 people are expected to work at the Tracy location, the newspaper reported. The two warehouses are expected to be open by the fall.
