Joe Montana Follows Steve Jobs' Lead

South Bay City Council meetings are quickly turning into the place to be to spot celebrities.

On Tuesday, Steve Jobs shocked the Cupertino City Council by personally appearing at a meeting to pitch Apple's new spaceship campus.

Now its the Santa Clara City Council's turn to host a celebrity.

Super Bowl-winning quarterback Joe Montana is scheduled to appear the Santa Clara City Council next Tuesday to pitch a luxury hotel project.

The odds of two Bay Area icons pitching development projects in the South Bay within a week is not lost on the city council.

"There's no spaceship involved," Santa Clara Mayor Jamie Matthews told the San Jose Mercury News. "But this is really exciting."

Montana is part of a group, that includes former 49ers' owner Eddir DeBartolo, who looking to lease and develop two city-owned parcels north of Tasman Avenue, next door to the proposed 49ers stadium.
