Judge Accused of DUI In San Mateo

No charges yet filed following May 24 arrest.

A San Mateo County judge was arrested last month for driving under the influence but has not yet been charged with a crime, according to reports.

Joseph Scott, 63, who's served on the bench since 2003, was pulled over and cited by police in Redwood City for DUI at about 12:30 a.m. May 24, the San Mateo County Times reported.

His blood alcohol content has not been disclosed, and police and prosecutors are not commenting on what led them to pull the judge over, the newspaper reported.

The district attorney said the "case is under review," the newspaper reported.

Results from a blood test will be received this week, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe told the newspaper, after which time a "formal filing decision" will be made.

Scott is scheduled to appear in court in August.

The arrest was first reported by the Palo Alto Daily Post.
