Judge Frees Richmond Mom After Beating, Starving Boy For Being “Insane”

A Richmond mother has been freed three years after a judge found her criminally insane and committed her to a mental hospital after the 2006 killing of her 8-year-old son.

Investigators said Teresa Moses beat and starved the boy and forced him to bathe in household cleaner and feces.

The Contra Costa Times reported Sunday that the 30-year-old Moses was released after doctors determined she was no longer a risk to society.

Authorities said Moses tortured and beat the boy regularly, and determined he died from battered child syndrome.

Doctors said Moses suffered from paranoid delusions.

In February, prosecutors objected to Moses' release, but doctors at Napa State Hospital said she was a ``model patient'' and she was released to a supervised halfway house in March.
