Family and friends who gather annually just before the Christmas holiday to remember a fallen San Francisco police officer said their grief has been magnified after New York Police Department officers were shot and killed last week.
During each holiday season, SFPD Officer Brian Tuvera's friends and family gather at the Taraval Station to remember the late officer. The 28-year-old Tuvera was shot and killed by a parolee on Dec. 23, 2006.
Lindsey Suslow, who worked at the Taraval Station with Tuvera, said each year's gathering is emotional. But Monday's gathering felt more intense.
"The magnitude, especially the two officers killed in New York," Suslow said.
San Francisco Police Capt. Curtis Lum said officers at the Taraval Station are stunned over the news from New York.
"It does feel different," Lum said of Monday's gathering to remember Tuvera. "It feels different because it's more of an impact because of recent events. When that happened and we remember this, we really feel it."
Emotional officers at police station all over the Bay Area are on patrol.

"Right now we're grieving as a profession as a country for two fallen officers only guilty of wearing a uniform," San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr said.
