Mini-hotels move one step forward
Not much space, but you could put your feet up.
Layovers at SFO might be a little more comfortable in the future is a plan to build a mini-hotel of sorts in the international terminal.
If it becomes a reality, there will be no more cat naps in cramped chairs or curling up in quiet corners when flights are delayed or canceled.
This week the San Francisco International Airport commissioners voted to move forward with the plan.
The mini-hotel offers travelers a very compact sleeping area, a small television and an area to store belongings. They also have a small desktop and an electrical outlet.
They are called pods or capsules and are very popular at airports in Asia.
SFO would be the first airport in the country to offer the sleep units and although they would be behind security lines in the international terminal, domestic passengers could use them as well.
The cost is "still to be determined" but would be charged on an hourly basis.
The soonest the pods would be available is early next year.
