Livermore Skateboarder, 13, Dies in Accident

Livermore boy, 13, dies in skateboard accident.

A 13-year-old boy who died when his skateboard careened into a pickup truck in Livermore has been identified as Nathan William Strube, according to the Alameda County Coroner.

Nathan, who attended Mendenhall Middle School in Livermore, was killed Tuesday shortly after 5 p.m., while riding his skateboard on Lomitas Avenue at Kara Place.

Sgt. John Hurd said the boy was turning west onto Lomitas, when he struck the pickup that was pulling a landscape trailer in the opposite direction. The boy was wearing a helmet, police said, and officers do not suspect alchol or drugs played a role.

The driver of the truck was not arrested. "There's nothing to suspect any negligence on his part at all," Hurd said.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call the Livermore Police Department Traffic Unit at 925-371-4850.
