    Local politicians from across Contra Costa Co. joined Meals on Wheels volunteers last week to learn about how hunger affects the elderly.

    Meals on Wheels has more than 700 volunteers in the county. They serve more than 360,000 meals per year to frail and homebound seniors. 

    Leigh Shughrou, a spokeswoman for Meals on Wheels and Senior Outreach Services, says the elderly population of Contra Costa Co. is expected to grow by 52% in the next 15 years.
