Five months after the winning ticket was sold and with only 25 days left to claim the prize, the California Lottery has finally found its mystery $23 million jackpot winner.
Her identity has not yet been released, but a news conference was scheduled for Friday.
A surveillance image was released as part of the lottery's search for its winner. On Thursday, lotto spokeswoman Ryann E. Petit-Frere confirmed that the winner was indeed the woman in the image (pictured, above).
If the ticket was not redeemed by Nov. 26, the winnings would have been transferred to California schools.
The yet-to-be-identified woman still has the winning ticket, Petit-Frere said.
"Thank God," Petit-Frere said.
The winning ticket was purchased for the May 30 draw at Michael's Market & Liquor, located at 37935 47th St. East in Palmdale. The winning numbers were 14, 7, 26, 31, 23 and Mega 5.
