Love in 2012 May be Closer Than You Think

Two Bay Area cities make list of best cities to find a date in 2012.

Finding love this year may not be as difficult as you think, at least if a new list has any truth to it.

The Daily Beast created the "Best Cities to Find a Date in 2012" and San Francisco and San Jose both made the cut. SF came in at No. 8, while SJ was No. 25.

To come up with the rankings, the site said it used a combination of Census data, the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index and Google Trends.

It created four criteria to measure cities by.

  1. Percentage of singles. The Daily Beast used the census to determine the percentage of single men and women over the age of 15 in a city as well as the total number of singles in each city.
  2. Cost-of-living. Average salaries for singles and cost of living were compared to come up with how much money a single person has available for dating.
  3. Mental and Physical Health. The thinking is healthy people are more likely to hit the dating scene.
  4. Popularity of dating sites. The Daily Beast used Google Trends to figure out how popular the top dating websites were in each city.

That data made for an interesting top five cities:

  1. Atlanta, GA
  2. Gainesville, FL
  3. Lincoln, NE
  4. Austin, TX
  5. Minneapolis, MN

The other California city to make the list: San Diego. It came in at  No. 15.
