Lowe's Home Improvement Chain to Hire 54,000 Part Time and Seasonal Workers

The home improvement chain said it would add 45,000 seasonal positions and 9,000 permanent positions, all of them part time

In a move that could be a sign of growing confidence in the resurgent housing market, the Lowe’s home improvement chain said it planned to hire 45,000 seasonal workers this spring.

The Mooresville, North Carolina, company said it would also bring on about 9,000 permanent part-time positions.

Unlike most retailers, whose are busiest in the months leading up to the winter holidays, home improvement firms get the most work in the spring, when people are fixing up their houses and planting gardens.

“Seasonal employees are most needed in the spring and summer months,” Lowe’s said in a news release this week. “The company plans to hire and train new seasonal employees first in areas where the climate has begun to warm, and continue on a market-by-market basis by climate and geography.”

Once the jobs are posted, applicants will be able to search for positions on the company's website.

Details on the company’s hiring plans in Southern California were not immediately available. There are 1,745 stores in the Lowe’s chain.
