A driver was seriously injured when he crashed his pickup truck into a tree in Fremont early Monday morning, according to police.

The crash happened on Paseo Padre Parkway just north of Peralta Boulevard at 12:37 a.m., police said.

The driver was headed south in a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck and hit a tree in the center median, police said.

He was the vehicle's only occupant and was taken to Regional Medical Center of San Jose with life-threatening injuries.

Paseo Padre Parkway was closed for most of this morning. Police announced shortly after 11 a.m. that the road had reopened.
