Man, 27, Shot in Head Outside Castro Valley Medical Center

A 27-year-old man died Monday morning after he was shot in the head in the parking lot of a medical office complex in Castro Valley, making him the area's first homicide of 2016, according to the Alameda County Sheriff.

Sgt. Ray Kelly said the Antioch resident was shot in the 19800 block of Lake Chabot Road about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, and was pronounced dead about 4:45 a.m. Monday at Eden Medical Center, about a block away from the crime scene.

Kelly said preliminary information indicates that the man was in the parking lot, which is not visible from the street, with a suspect as well as a friend of the victim before the shooting. What they were doing was not clear, but their meeting took a wrong turn at some point, Kelly said.

Deputies said the suspect ran off on foot.
