Man, 68, Charged With Sex Abuse at Sunnyvale Childcare Home

A 68-year-old man who lived at a childcare center has been charged in connection with sexually abusing two minors at a Sunnyvale center.

Sunnyvale Dept. of Public Safety Capt. David Pitts said Jose Cristobal Velandria was charged on Oct. 4 in Santa Clara County Superior Court and as of that date remained in custody. He was arrested two days earlier after police were notified about some possible child sexual abuse at Belen's Childcare in the 700 block of South Wolfe Road.

Pitts said that Velandria lives at the childcare facility and is related to the owner of the business.

On a website called centzy.com, two people posted that they were very "thankful to Belen and her staff" and had only glowing things to say about the daycare. Others in the neighborhood said they liked the daycare.

The owner of the center is Belen Di Lascio and her center is licensed to care for 14 children. She did not want to be interviewed when NBC Bay Area knocked on her door. Her center is in good standing with the state licensing department.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (408) 730-7130.
