Man Arrested For DUI After Ramming Car Into Rohnert Park Building, Fleeing From Scene

A Santa Rosa man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after he crashed his vehicle into an apartment complex in Rohnert Park on Wednesday afternoon, according to the city's Department of Public Safety.

The driver, 30-year-old Jerry Copus, drove his Acura through a stop sign at Adrian Drive and Southwest Boulevard around 3:20 p.m., public safety officials said.

Copus was speeding, swerved to avoid stopped traffic at the intersection and lost control of the Acura. The car left the road and crashed into a corner of a Brewster Ames apartment building at 7300 Adrian Drive, according to the department.

The car struck an electrical panel and main power lines to two buildings in the area, public safety officials said.

Copus fled but a patrol officer stopped him from jumping over a fence and arrested him on suspicion of DUI and fleeing the scene of a collision, public safety officials said.

The crash caused damage estimated at $50,000 to the apartment complex. The residents of the corner apartment were not home at the time of the crash, according to the department.
