A man was arrested early Sunday for an alleged road rage shooting in San Francisco's Hunters Point neighborhood last week, police said today.
The shooting was reported at 9:05 a.m. Wednesday near Evans Avenue and Jennings Street and injured a 21-year-old man, according to police.
The victim and another person were in a car at Third Street and Newcomb Avenue in the city's Bayview District when they noticed that the driver of a dark-colored Mitsubishi was tailgating them and appeared to be irate after the victims had cut him off in traffic, police said.
At the stoplight at that intersection, the suspect got out of his car and punched the 21-year-old in the face through an open window. The victims then drove away, but were followed by the suspect, who opened fire on them on Evans Avenue, striking the victim in the hip, police said.
The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are not considered life-threatening, according to police.
The suspect drove away but a description of his car was sent out to all district stations in the city, and early Sunday morning, officers spotted a car matching the description near the intersection of Columbus Avenue and Broadway, police said.
The officers pulled the car over and contacted its two occupants. They determined one of the two was the shooting suspect and arrested him around 2:30 a.m., according to police.

A search of the suspect, whose name is not yet being released, revealed he had nearly $1,000 in his possession. Officers also found a handgun and more than 25 grams of marijuana in the vehicle along with a digital scale and several cellphones, police said.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, several firearms-related offenses and possession of marijuana for sale, according to police.
The other occupant of the car was identified, investigated and released, police said.
