A 21-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly vandalizing a sports park in Pleasanton, police said.

An alert resident called police around 1 a.m. Tuesday to report a pickup truck driving through the Pleasanton Sports Park at 5800 Parkside Drive. When officers arrived they spotted a truck driving recklessly and in circles on the sport fields.

Police said the driver, identified as Imran Meskienyar of Castro Valley, then turned off the truck's headlights and attempted to drive away. Officers were able to catch up with Meskienyar, who then stopped for police.

Large portions of the fields are damaged from the incident.

Meskienyar was arrested on a felony vandalism charge and was booked at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, police said.

The city will be seeking restitution for the cost to repair the turf.
