Man Fatally Stabbed at El Sobrante Hardware Store, Suspect Arrested

Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man in El Sobrante Sunday for stabbing a 49-year-old man to death at a hardware store.

The stabbing happened at around 9:00 a.m. outside the Oliver’s Ace Hardware store on the 4000 block of San Pablo Dam Road near Appian Way. Sheriff's deputies were called to the store to investigate a robbery in progress.

When police arrived, they found the 49-year-old man in the parking lot suffering from trauma to his upper body.

Deputies provided first aid to the stabbing victim, and the fire department and ambulance arrived after to treat the man.

Police searched the area for the suspect and found him inside a nearby residence.

Police identified the suspect in custody as 34-year-old Daymond Agnew of Hercules. He was booked into the county jail for murder Sunday afternoon.

The victim, who worked at the hardware store, died at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek about two hours after the he was stabbed.

The suspect is being held on $1 million bail. Police have not identified the victim and they have not yet identified a motive.
