Man Files Suit Over 75 Cents

Rodney Harmon says hotel tricked him into taking a newspaper.

A recent visitor to the Hilton Garden Inn Sonoma County Airport has filed a class-action lawsuit against the Hilton hotel chain.

Rodney Harmon, 55, of Sacramento County says the hotel tricked him into taking a morning paper, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Harmon was staying at the hotel on March 28. He woke up to find a copy of USA Today on his doorstep. Harmon says he did not touch the paper, but when he got the bill, it included a 75 cent charge for the paper.

Apparently, hotel policy is to charge the guest for a paper unless they specifically decline it.

Harmon's attorney told the New York Times, "Mr. Harmon and this law firm believe there is more at stake than 75 cents. It exemplifies the types of advantages that, unfortunately, we see companies taking of you and I and everyone else every day.

Hilton has not commented on the lawsuit.
