Man Found on Fire in SF Dies

A person who was found on fire at a gas station in San Francisco's Sunset District at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday has died, a San  Francisco Police Department sergeant said.

A gas station attendant on 19th Avenue near Taraval Street waived  down a police officer, Sgt. Lyn Tomioka said. The officer, who was returning  to his station nearby, had already seen that someone was on fire at the gas  station.

The officer and the attendant attempted to put out the fire, she said.

Firefighters with the San Francisco Fire Department responded and put it out. An arson inspector and the medical examiner also responded. The  male victim's identification has not been released pending notification of next of kin, Tomioka said.

An arson investigator and the medical examiner are continuing to investigate the fire.
