7 Children, 2 Adults Pulled From Home in Barricade Situation: SJPD

A total of seven children and two adults were pulled from a San Jose home where a man, possibly armed with a gun, had barricaded himself inside on Wednesday morning, police said.

Sgt. Heather Randol said the suspect was gone from the home at Large Grove Place and Hayes Avenue, which is near Oak Grove High School, before officers ever entered  about 6:45 a.m. Randol said police know who the man is, but have not found him yet.

The odd situation began when police dispatch received reports of a man standing in the street holding a gun at 9:44 p.m. on Tuesday. Police went to his house, where he had holed up inside.

Officers were told that the man had a child with him as well, Randol said. Police and the MERGE unit surrounded his house. Police threw flash-bang grenades into the house about 6:45 a.m. to enter the home.

The Oak Grove High School principal decided to close the campus until the barricade situation is over, and then re-opened the school at 9:15 a.m.
