Man Robbed, Pistol Whipped in Menlo Park

Neighbors said crime is getting worse in one neighborhood on the Peninsula.

In Menlo Park Saturday night, a man was beaten with a gun and had his cell phone stolen, police said.

Police said just before 9 p.m., two suspects tried to rob the victim near the intersection of Ivy Drive and Almanor Avenue.

The victim tried to call police, but that is when a suspect pulled out a handgun and hit the victim several times. The suspects were able to get away.

Neighbors said the crime is not too surprising.

"When I was younger, it was better. I felt safer just walking around the block or going to the park with my friends or my cousins," Alyssa Starkes said. "But as I gotten older, the crime really just went up a lot, and I don't feel safe."
