Man Shot, Killed During Bay Area Hunting Trip

A man was shot and killed while hunting for pheasant in Sonoma County this weekend.

The Sonoma County sheriff's department says Napa resident Daniel Downs died after being <a href="http:// http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/11/15/BAP81GC9VS.DTL#ixzz15OBBEx4R%20">shot while hunting near the San Pablo Bay Wildlife Refuge.  It is legal to hunt pheasant in the area, according to authorities.

They say the shooting was an accident, but they aren't saying who pulled the trigger

It happened around 4:15 p.m. Sunday along state Highway 37 in Sonoma County.

Downs was out with his 11 year old son and two friends when something went terribly wrong.  He was already dead by the time deputies arrived on the scene, according to investigators.

Sonoma sheriff's Capt. Matt McCaffrey told the Chronicle the death was a "horrible tragedy."
