Man Shot in Torso at San Leandro BART Station

A man was shot in his upper torso in the parking of the Bay Fair BART station in San Leandro, and police are still looking for who shot him.

BART Lt. Michael Hayes said the shooting happened outside the station at 15242 Hesperian Blvd. about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday. He said the man was shot in the upper torso. What led up to the shooting is still under investigation. There were reports of "multiple shots."

Officers responding to reports of gunfire in the west parking lot found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, he said. The man, whose name wasn’t released, was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, where he was reported to be in critical but stable condition.

Robbery has not been ruled out, Hayes said, although a clear motive has not been determined.

Hayes said there is information that there was "more than one supsect." Police will be looking at surveillance cameras in the area.
