A Castroville man was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of child abuse in the case of a dead 2-year old girl, according to Monterey County Sheriff's deputies.
David Leonardo, 26, was taken into custody after deputies responded to a call and found Pricillia Hernandez, 2, not breathing. Hernandez was declared dead at the scene.
At the hospital, medical investigators found evidence that "suggested child abuse," according to the San Jose Mercury News. Deputies then arrested Leonardo on suspicion of felony child abuse and child endangerment.
The relationship between Hernandez and Leonardo is not immediately known.
The baby's autopsy is scheduled for today, after which point more charges may be filed, the newspaper reported.
