Oakland police are asking for the public's help in finding a man who allegedly kidnapped, robbed and attempted to sexually assault a woman on Piedmont Avenue early Thursday.
Police said a 29-year-old woman was walking on the 3300 block of Piedmont Avenue at about 12:06 a.m. Thursday when she was approached from behind by a stranger who pressed a metal object into her back that she believed was some type of weapon.
The suspect then forced the woman to walk to a secluded location in the area of Randwick Avenue, just east of Piedmont Avenue, where he robbed and attempted to sexually assault her, according to police.
The woman kicked and screamed and tried to fight off the suspect but the man was able to flee on foot with her property, police said.
Authorities describe the suspect as a man of unknown race between the ages of 25 and 30 with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black-and-white scarf and a dark hooded sweater.
Crime Stoppers of Oakland is offering a reward of up to $7,500 for information leading to the suspect's arrest.
