Two Carjacking Suspects Arrested, Ending Manhunt

Two carjacking suspects hiding in an apartment were arrested on Thursday morning after being bit by police dogs, ending a seven-hour manhunt through the South Bay.

The pair were taken into custody about 7 a.m. in an apartment near Bernardo Avenue and Blackberry Terrace in Sunnyvale. Police dogs bit them, as they were hiding in a garage. San Jose Police Lt. Chris Monahan called the men very "uncooperative."

The arrests capped a massive manhunt for the suspects, who police called β€œarmed and dangerous,” and who caused the temporary lockdown of one Sunnyvale neighborhood on Remington Avenue as police from San Jose, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Los Altos, Santa Clara and the California Highway Patrol scoured the South Bay for the pair.

Monahan said the suspects stole a white Cadillac Escalade from a driver near Lucretia Avenue and Tully Road in San Jose about midnight who then alerted authorities.

Police tracked the car to Meridian Avenue and Willow Street in San Jose and started following it. A chase ensued. And the pursuit left San Jose onto Highway 280 and into Sunnyvale, Monahan said. The car stopped at a gate near Stevens Creek and the suspects jumped out of the car and started heading toward the creek, police said.

Authorities ended up finding a handgun nearby, and a pellet gun inside the car.
