Drug activity in various San Francisco neighborhoods has now been documented in handy map form.
According to Boing Boing, a data scientist named Lance Martin has analyzed 12 years of crime activity from San Francisco Police Department's Crime Incident Reporting system to come up with San Francisco's Drug Geography, a map and study he has posted on his blog. The system includes information from the city's 10 police districts.
Martin's findings indicate that the Haight-Ashbury mostly has marijuana related incidents, while crack cocaine has been a problem in the Tenderloin, albeit one that has seen less such activity there and throughout San Francisco.
"The most striking trend I saw was the drop-off in crack-related incidents," Martin wrote. "It looks like crack is becoming a smaller fraction of the drug landscape."
