Martinez Boy Mauled by Pit Bull Released From Hospital

A 10-year-old Martinez boy mauled by a pit bull last week has been released from the hospital, according to his mother, Melody Ralls.

Hunter Kilbourn was at a friends house in Antioch on Sunday, Aug. 11, when he was knocked down by the dog. Ralls said the dog mauled Hunter's face and arms.

The boy went through several surgeries at the University of California, Davis trauma center, to repair his injuries.

"He is in good spirits and getting his personality back," Ralls said in an e-mail to NBC Bay Area.

Hunter is soon scheduled to return to UC Davis Children's Hospital for a check up and possibly to remove bandages that cover the right side of his head. Ralls said doctors will know on Thursday if Hunter will need more surgery.

A fundraiser for Hunter's recovery will be held during Labor Day weekend at select Kinder's Meats & BBQ locations. For more information, visit Facebook.com/hunterkilbournsrecovery.
